A few simple rules are clearly set out in the contracts that artists negotiate with our promoters. They vary from one artist to another, but here are the ones that come up consistently and that the promoter is required to enforce.

Audiences are searched on entry to prevent anyone from entering the concert venue with:

items that may be dangerous (knives, umbrellas, helmets, stepladders, folding chairs, etc.),

audiovisual recording equipment (cameras, video cameras, recorders, etc.)

glass, PET or metal containers (bottles, flasks, cans, etc.) that could be turned into projectiles.

for certain concerts, bringing food may be prohibited.

Promoters usually set up a left-luggage point outside where these items can be handed in.

Cups may be handed out so that spectators can empty their bottles and enter the venue with their drink.
